According to Shanghai Railway Bureau, the smoking areas at Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, and Shanghai South Railway Station are all shut down today. There won’t be any forms of indoor smoking facility available to travelers. Two outdoor smoking areas have been set up at each station to meet the need. Travelers can either follow the sign or ask the station staff to get to the smoking place.

For you and other people’s health, please stop smoking at indoor places, a clean lady at the Shanghai Railway Station advised those smoking passengers. Later, the staff warned the continuing smokers that a fine of 200 RMB will be made if they violate the rules again.
In addition to the three major railway stations in Shanghai, insiders from the Shanghai airport told us that, on October 30, the two major airports in Shanghai, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, will also shut down all indoor smoking rooms. The terminal building will be smoking-free too. Outside the building, designated smoking points are available.

As is known to all, Chinese lunar calender divides the year into 24 solar terms according to the natural phenomena, such as seasons, climate and phenology. Farmers in ancient China followed the 24 solar terms to carry out the agricultural affairs and arrange other aspects of their life, including clothing, food, hosing, and transportation, which still have an important effect on people’s life now.

Frost’s Descent, (Chinese: 霜降), the 18th solar term of the year, begins this year on Oct 23 and ends on Nov 7, indicating the beginning of the late autumn, which also means that the weather will get much colder from now on and the frost will start to appear first in northern part of China, and later in southern part of China.

If you are going to send your tours to China or they are traveling in China at the present, there are some warm tips for you and your clients.

  • Always keep warm and safe

Since the temperature in most parts of China drops sharply recently, warm clothes and jackets are definitely needed. If you are going to travel to northeast China, say Harbin, you may encounter snowfall. In middle China, lots of cities embrace week-long rainfall lately, causing huge humid and cold air. Always bring an umbrella with you for your own safety. Besides, in north China, frost began to appear in most of the places in the morning, so a pair of antiskid shoes would be a nice choice for an early morning outing.

  • Dont miss the seasonal fruits and snacks

As the harvest season, autumn brings us abundant fruit choices, such as persimmons, apples, pears, as well as dates. They are all seasonal fruits and are extremely great resources of all kinds of vitamins and mineral elements. Having these fruits prepares the body with enough nutrition and strong immunity to get through the coming winter. Special snacks in this cold season are next things that you just cannot miss. Tanghulu, hawthorn with nice sugar coat on a stick, is absolutely delicious. Roast sweet potato spreads its yummy scent far away on the street, and you can also warm your hands with it while enjoying this beautiful natural healthy food. Roast chestnuts are also said beneficial for one’s health. Good for nourishing the spleen and stomach, chestnuts can invigorate the circulation of blood, relieve coughs and reduce sputum.

  • Frost’s Descent Festival

People in areas such as Daxin county in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region celebrate the first day of Frost’s Descent. In the Frost’s Descent Festival, the Zhuang people offer sacrifices, dance and sing folk songs. With a history of more than 360 years, the festival is to commemorate Cen Yuyin, a heroine in battles against foreign aggression.

  • Sunning scenery with autumn color shinning

Autumn is an excellent season for outing before it’s getting too cold. If you tend to visit the Great Wall recently, don’t hesitate, because at this season, you will meet less people but more colorful nature. The oil-painting like vegetation at the Badaling National Forest Park in Beijing, amazed tourists and photographers. The ginkgo at the outskirts of Beijing and other parts of the country shows their golden charm, covering the earth with a bed of foliage, tranquil and peaceful.

In October 1934, during the civil war, Chinese Communists led soldiers and peasant breaking through Kuo Min Tang’s encirclement and leaving their headquarters in southwest China to the west and north seeking survival and fighting against Japanese invasion. Known as the Long March, the tough journey lasted a year and covered about 4,000 miles, including snow mountain, horrifying torrent, dangerous bridge, wet grass, and some extremely cold weather. Some people died in the march, and some locals joined the march. Gradually, under the leadership of Mao Zedong(1893-1976), the army got bigger and stronger, and he became the undisputed leader of the Chinese Communists.

Till now, 80 years passed, but Chinese people will always remember the hardship they endured for the liberation of the nation. The Long March spirit is seeking truth from the facts, strictly observing discipline, bearing in mind the overall interests, solidarity, and relying firmly on the masses and going through thick and thin together with them.

All those Long March spirits have long been inherited into Chinese people and some of Chinese project. Chinese people are known for their perseverance, endurance, toughness, and team spirit. With the development of the economy, some Chinese project are even shocking the whole world. For example, China’s space project, 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, World Expo in Shanghai, G20 leaders meeting in Hangzhou. Chinese people are always ready to face the challenge, and will present excellent results through combined efforts. Besides from the ancient treasures, the Great Wall in Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, the Silk Road in land and on water, are all splendid works of brilliant and hard-working Chinese people.

One of the top news in China and abroad lately is that China launched its 11th spacecraft Shenzhou XI from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China, on Oct 17, 2016. It finished docking automatically with the orbiting Tiangong II space lab at 3:31am Wednesday Beijing Time, according to Beijing Aerospace Control Center.

For Chinese people, “Shenzhou” “Tiangong” “Chang’e” the name of Chinese lunar probe and “Yvtu” the name of Chinese lunar rover, are all household names and easy to resonate with. It all because that those names came from a famous Chinese myth and later have been written in ancient classic and poems often times. Now we are going to share the story with you.

Long time ago, there were 10 suns in the sky, which made the weather too hot to bear. Houyi, a strong man who was extremely good at archery, shot down nine of them and forced the last one to rise and fall at regular times. Thereafter, life became much better and people all regarded him as a hero. And later on, he married a beautiful and kind lady Chang’e, and started to teach people archery for a living.

One day, he acquired a tiny bottle of medicine that could turn human into god and have eternal life from goddess Wangmuniangniang. But Houyi didn’t want to leave his wife for immortal life. So he asked Chang’e to keep it.

However, one of Houyi’s students found out about the medicine, and threatened Chang’e to hand it over when Houyi was teaching in the mountain.

Chang’e had no choice but to swallow the medicine. She suddenly felt so weak and light, and started to float, higher and higher till she reached the bright round moon, where she lived later for her whole life. Fortunately, Yvtu, a jade rabbit, kept her company in this cold Tiangong, literally sky palace.

When Houyi came back, he heard the story from the maids. He was so sad but could do nothing. He missed Chang’e so much that he asked the maid to set all the fresh fruits and cakes that Chang’e favored on the table in the garden in memory of her. Neighbors knew the story, and all set delicious food in their yards to comfort Chang’e and Houyi, and also for good wishes since Chang’e was goddess then.

This ritual gradually became a tradition. Every August 15th in Chinese lunar calendar become a holiday when family got together, appreciated the moon and enjoyed the yummy moon cake.

End of the story. Now you must have an idea about those special names. To summary,

Shenzhou means holy ship, Tiangong means sky palace, Chang’e the name of the beautiful and kind lady living on the moon, and Yvtu, the jade rabbit, who kept Chang’e company in this cold Tiangong.

In Wulingyuan Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie, the northeast China’s Hunan Province, we have the ‘hundred dragons sky lift’, the highest lift in the world, to transport our visitors to the top of a 1,070-foot-tall cliff (362 meters) from its foot in less two minutes, saving their efforts of climbing the rigid mountain but not missing the breathtaking view.

In Tianmen Mountain National Park, also located in Zhangjiajie, the longest cable car in the world, runs 7,454 meters from Zhangjiajie downtown up to Tianmen mountain, saves the trouble of long distance walking and rewards the visitor with spectacular views from the top.

However, both of the amazing activities above are for those brave people with a healthy heart. While for others, the brand new longest escalator on the ground at Enshi Grand Canyon in Enshi city, Central China’s Hubei province, will give them the same wonderful feeling but without the fast heart beat.

During the week-long China’s National Day Holiday, some visitors have already tried this fantastic energy-saving sightseeing escalator. “The escalator was designed to save time and energy for a better enjoy of the beautiful sights in the area”, said an insider.

“We also care about our nature and the environment of the scenic spot. The roof of the escalator were made of wood and gray tile, and plenty of vine plants were planted on both sides to fit in the surrounding landscape”, said Xiong Yan, the director of this project.

For just 20 yuan($2.98), you can fully indulge yourself in this stunning scenery all the way. A daily 600,000 passenger flow will meet the need and satisfy every visitor.

An insider from Zhangjiajie tourism agency told us that after 24 days closure from the first opening, the world longest and highest glass bridge in Zhangjajie is ready to receive tourists again.

Exactly today, Sept. 28, visitors can step on the glass bridge and feel the heartbeat once again. Tickets can be booked from tourism agencies for RMB141, but it only covers the glass bridge tour, not include the Grand Canyon trip since it is still closed for upgrading, Full name is needed for traffic control reasons. A restriction of 4,000 tourists flow per day has been implemented to ensure safe and pleasant sightseeing on the bridge. After this testing period, an insider hinted, the volume will be increased to 10,000 gradually.

As reported, this bridge keeps 10 world records for its design and construction. 300 meters high from the ground, 430 meters wide between two steep cliffs, trust me, you will feel different standing on the transparent glass, and if you dare looking down into the valley.
